ABOUT THE TRIP

I initially assume that I will travel about 3-4 thousand kilometers. There are several points on the map that absolutely cannot be missed. These are the places Namibia is famous for. But to avoid being too cliched, I also have a few other ideas. People who know the topic at least a little, know that the best way is to rent a 4×4 car with a tent on the roof.
In Namibia you cannot sleep outside designated campsites/lodges. For security reasons, of course. That’s also why it’s better not to set up tents on the ground 😉 When it’s winter in Europe, it’s summer there, with a specific rainy season. And that’s when I would like to start the adventure, even though it may be too warm and too wet.

INTRODUCTION

A BIT OF INFO

The Republic of Namibia, is a country in southwestern Africa. It covers an area of 824,292 km² and is inhabited by 2,803,660 people (2024).
The country is located on the Atlantic Ocean. The terrain is predominantly highland, diversified by mountain ranges. The climate is dry, and a significant part of the country is covered by deserts – in the west, along the coast, the Namib Desert (which gives the country its name), in the east – the Kalahari; the remaining central part of the country is covered by savannas.
Namibia is a republic with a presidential system, and the capital and largest city is Windhoek, located in the central part of the country. With a population density of 3.4 people/km². Namibia is one of the least populated countries in the world, after Mongolia.
The country was colonized by Europeans in the second half of the 19th century. In 1884, German South-West Africa was established, corresponding in area to the modern state, with the exception of the enclave around the port city of Walvis Bay, which had been annexed by the British a few years earlier. These were not good years for the inhabitants.
