MOLDOVEANU AND FĂGĂRAŞ RIDGE - ROMANIA
Moldoveanu is the highest peak in Romania and the Southern Carpathians in the Fagaras Mountains. It rises to a height of 2,544 meters above sea level. It is considered one of the peaks of the Crown of Europe.
FĂGĂRAŞ MOUNTAINS RIDGE
Făgăraș Mountains are the highest range of the Southern Carpathians and all of Romania. The most famous and highest peaks of the Fagaras Mountains are Moldoveanu (2,544 m above sea level), Negoiu (2,535 m above sea level) and Viștea Mare (2,527 m above sea level).
The range is located in central Romania, between the Wallachian Plain in the south and the Transylvanian Plateau in the north. Its area is approximately 2,000 km².
Over 20 peaks with heights exceeding 2000 m lies between Suru and Ludisor, some of which exceed 2500 m asl.
It is the highest ridge of the Southern Carpathians, part of the Carpathian Traverse. This is the most classic route in Romania. Its length is 90 km and the entire route may take about 6-7 days.

NATURE IN THE CARPATHIANS
The Carpathians are home to Europe’s largest populations of brown bears, wolves, chamois and lynxes, with the highest concentration in Romania, as well as over a third of all European plant species. Romania is the country with the largest number of brown bears in Europe – according to the Romanian Ministry of the Environment, there are approximately 8,000 of them living in Romania.
There are also many thermal and mineral waters in the mountains and their foothills, with Romania having one third of the total amount in Europe. Romania is also home to the second largest area of virgin forest in Europe after Russia, with a total area of 250,000 hectares (65%), most of it located in the Carpathians, with the Southern Carpathians constituting the largest unfragmented forest area in Europe.
