ARADENA GORGE & BRIDGE

Aradena Bridge is 84 meters length and 138 meters high and is the highest bridge for bungee jumping in Greece and the second highest in Europe. The lenght of the gorge from Aradena bridge to the sea (Marmara Beach) is about 6-7km and it takes about 3 hours to cross it.
My daughter Ania did it. She jumped off this bridge in 2024. Since then, this is my next challenge. Flying to Crete just to jump is pointless. That’s why I’ll add a lot of trekking around this island. But this will be the subject of another specific blog post. Only one thing is certain – you can jump there only on weekends and only in July and August.
So i will 😉

JUMPING & TREKKING

The Aradena Gorge is located in the southwestern part of Crete, in the Sfakia region.
The road from the coast to the bridge is beautiful. Lots of turns do not allow you to reach high speeds, so you can calmly admire the views. Goats are everywhere and they seem to feel as if they own this road 🙂
The bridge is made of iron, hanging at a height of 138 m, lined with wooden logs, and is said to be the highest in Greece. It was built in 1986 with funds from the Vardinogianni brothers from the village of Agios Ioannis.
Aradena was abandoned in the 1950s. It is said that it was due to a family quarrel that resulted in 7 deaths. Currently, some of the houses have been renovated, Aradena is slowly coming to life.
Since 1999, Liquid Bungee has been organizing bungee jumping in Aradena. Its the company that made known bungy jumping in Greece, setting the standards in the field from early on. National, international records and events contributed to the recognition of the team establishing it in the mind of the public as a synonym of exciting, safe bungy jumping.
